[DAILY DRABBLE] Descending into the Avernus - D&D

PLOT: Shael Silentlight, alongside the big Winter Wolf who’s always following her, leaves for a while her party of adventurers after being contacted by Daldrean, a Aasimar cleric with whom the Elf Scout has a long last relationship.

«I can’t believe you talked me into this!» Shael Silentlight grumbled quite annoyed, looking around her like a caged wolf. The Elf, a Rogue Scout from an important family from Evermet, wasn’t very happy to be descending onto the Avernus, a place she didn’t really like very much, for many reasons that she didn’t want to recollect. Talking about wolves, Ice, her constant shadow even then, the big White Wolf found in one of the cages at Tresendar Castle, was apparently nowhere to be seen.

Not that was really a problem, after all: the Wolf was never too far from the Scout and had shown, more than once, that he moved rather quickly and silently, always ready to neutralise any danger that might harm the woman.

Dandrean, the Aasimar cleric who had requested the presence of the scout, merely shook her head: they had known each other for years, now, and they both knew one simple thing about each other. No one between the two of them would have left the other in jeopardy or wouldn’t respond to a call for help, exactly what had just done the scout.

«Did they know where you were going?»
«No,» Shael didn’t stop looking around her, ready to react at the slightest hint of threat – after all, here she was no simple scout or thief, but a sort of bodyguard of the cleric, left behind after an important skirmish with a bunch of Death Knights which had taken the adventurers by surprise, despite all the precautions taken. There was a pair of creatures requiring immediate medical attention and the two of them had offered to be left behind to ensure that the healing process would have started correctly.

Now the three of them were tracking the tracks of the others, to finally rejoin them and continue the mission. Daldrean looked at the partner, interested: «Why?»
«They would have followed me,» observed the scout, «and surely there would be problems with your… friends.»
«They’re not my friends,» pointed wryly out the Aasimar, «I happened to be in the same place as them, when they were hired for this crazy thing… and they needed a healer. You know me well enough that now I can’t turn them down.»
«Yes, I know,» acknowledged Shael, having given up convincing her long ago, «but you really need to reconsider that choice, sooner or later.»
«Missing me already?» Daldrean used a honeyed voice, knowing full well that it would unnerve the other woman, who gave her a simple look, before taking her aback: «Always.» Ice chose that moment to reappear to their left and the trio continued in silence, until they reached the others.
